from the president
Welcome to 2009-2010 season of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra.
Maestro Allan R. Scott has prepared an exciting season, starting with the return of Lansdale
native and Curtis Institute graduate Claire Huangci performing Ravel’s delightful Piano
Concerto in G major. The addition of the overture from Wagner’s Flying Dutchman and the
majestic Sibelius’ Second Symphony make for a truly memorable and enjoyable opening to the season.
The year also includes an impressive breadth and depth of great music, from works by Haydn and Mendelssohn in our November concert, through symphonies of Beethoven in February and Dvo?ák in April, and outstanding solo concertos throughout the year: Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto with Stephen Cepeda, Samuel Barber’s Piano Concerto with Carl Cranmer, and Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto with Richard Amoroso. We also welcome the return of the
Annual Family Holiday Concert with Kid Konductors! in December and look forward to seeing
another young virtuoso win this season’s Young Artist Competition.
Along with the artistic growth of the orchestra, we are now witnessing the outstanding inaugural
season of the recital hall in Lansdale Center for the Performing Arts under the direction of Marja Kaisla. Upon completion of the main concert hall, time and the economy willing, we keenly
await our residence there as the principal ensemble in the main hall.
Finally, we deeply appreciate you, our audience, our subscribers, patrons and benefactors, and
our concert sponsors, particularly Univest, Elliott Greenleaf Law Firm, and Union National
Bank.
Enjoy the season!
